Let's Celebrate Europe - 70th anniversary of the establishment of the European Parliament

It is not every day that we have foreign guests in our village. Thanks to the great European project Let's Celebrate Europe and active leadership from our elementary school, we were able to welcome the second delegation of students from abroad to the village of Bystričany. The aim of this project is to commemorate and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the European Parliament.

In the days from June 9 - 14, 2024, students from the Alsatian city of Marlenheim from the partner school Collège Grégoire de Tours visited our village. Pupils and teachers from the French partner school were ceremoniously welcomed by the mayor of Bystričany in the ceremonial room not only with his ceremonial speech, but also, as is customary in Slovakia, with bread and salt. As a sign of friendship and good mutual relations, the mayor of our village handed over to the French delegation a painting of one of our cultural monuments, the Church of the Holy Trinity in Bystričany.

During their stay, the French students were accommodated in the families of Slovak friends from our village, where they had many experiences and could get to know the everyday life of a Slovak family.

We hope that our special guests had pleasant days in Bystričany full of great experiences in the company of new friends and the joy of getting to know our country and our region.
