We commemorated the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising together
In the spirit of nature, history and belonging – from the morning climb to Vtáčnik to the evening glow of the bonfire
On Saturday, August 29, 2026, we experienced a day in our village that combined the beauty of nature, respect for history, active movement, music and the joy of meeting together. The event prepared to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising offered residents and visitors a varied program in which everyone could find something for themselves - from a morning hiking trip to an evening sitting by the campfire.
The morning steps were directed towards Vtáčnik
The day began in the morning with a joint hike to Vtáčnik. Hiking enthusiasts and everyone who wanted to enjoy a day in nature and at the same time commemorate significant events in our history met at the municipal office.
During the bus ride, we stopped at the church in Bystričany, where we laid wreaths to honor the heroes and victims of the Slovak National Uprising. This stop was also a fitting reminder that the freedom we have today was not taken for granted.
Then the participants were on their way to Vtáčnik. Each step towards the summit brought not only pleasant movement and beautiful views, but also the feeling that walking together is easier. At the top of Vtáčnik, the participants of the climb met to remember the legacy of the SNP and pause for a moment in the silence of the mountain nature.
The evening was about memories, music and getting together.
After returning from the mountains, the program continued with an evening memorial ceremony on the occasion of the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising. We met at the local football field to commemorate the events that significantly affected the history of Slovakia.
The symbol of the evening was a lit bonfire. Its flames were not only a reminder of the past, but also a symbol of life, belonging, and common values that unite us even today.
The dignified atmosphere of the memorial part was gradually replaced by a pleasant social mood. There was no shortage of refreshments, conversations, laughter and live music.
The whole day was spent in the spirit of friendship, belonging and shared experiences. It showed that our village is not just a place where we live, but above all a place where we can meet, talk, remember our history together and create new memories.
We thank everyone who participated in the event, everyone who helped with its preparation and organization, tourists for their joint steps to Vtáčnik, as well as everyone who came to the bonfire in the evening.
We are glad that we were able to honor the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising together - with movement, remembrance, conversations, music, and ordinary human closeness.
Thank you for being a part of this beautiful day. We look forward to seeing you again!
