Pensioners' Union in Slovakia - ZO Bystričany

The ZO JDS in Bystričany was established on February 25, 2001. It was established through the activities of an active group of seniors led by Ján Pažický and other voluntary citizens, also officials of the OV JDS in Prievidza. A new era of unknown situations, without experience, but with great determination and enthusiasm began.
The senior citizens' club began its activities in renovated premises with appropriate equipment and, above all, with the support of the local government and the senior citizens themselves. Even today, many creative and sincere people work in the committee and the association itself. The membership base has 139 members and is led by a 9-member committee headed by the chairwoman Anna Iliašová.
Citizens appreciate the approach of the mayor, municipal council, municipal workers and committee members to working with seniors. Years lived, work done and life wisdom speak for themselves. With a strong will, they gather the remnants of strength and achieve the impossible. They use their creativity and imagination when working with wood or other natural materials. They are not afraid to compete in senior sports games. They can sing, recite, paint, embroider, create beautiful products from yarn, textiles, dough and various others. They can live a cultural and social life. They visit exhibitions, theatres, cinemas, libraries, participate in discussions, excursions, trips, tourism, tours, reconditioning and health stays and the like.
The organization's traditional - large events include every year: ZO JDS member meetings, Children's Day, Village Days during the feast, Brass Band Festivals under the Birdcage, Seniors' Sports Days, events in the village's memorial room, nature walks, bus sightseeing tours, Village Meeting in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, a guest chair, a tour of leisure activities, Autumn is a Gift, St. Nicholas' gathering, Christmas in the village and many other unmentioned activities.
The Senior Sports Days have been popular for several years, always under a certain slogan. In 2014 - Sports for health, 2015 - Exercise and healthy nutrition for health, 2016 - The importance of a drinking regime, 2017 - Hygiene, 2018 - In the vegetable basket, vitamins have hidden, 2019 - Pasta for the family, 2020 - Dairy products and cheeses will give you strength. The radiant faces of the winners in sports and entertainment disciplines, hands full of food prizes, an entertainment program by the singing group Bystričianka and delicious refreshments, that is the reality of the sports days of our seniors.
The Bystričianka singing group has been working at the ZO JDS since 2006. The singing group works under the leadership of Helena Kmeťová. For years, it has stuck to a song repertoire with its own lyrics to the melodies of well-known folk songs. It performs in traditional costumes, and its members are also excellent theater artists. For five years, the Bystričianka and the singing group Hôrky z Čerenany have been connected by a friendly bond with a common accordionist, Ing. Darinka Vincúrová. The singing group at the ZO JDS Bystričany has had successful performances and is an integral part of events in and outside the village.
Thanks to our members Petr and Anton Obžerov, a large variety of photo documentation and video recordings from our events have contributed to the more than 20-year existence of our ZO JDS. We continue to develop long-term friendship and active cooperation with teachers and pupils of elementary schools and kindergartens, with the Urban Land Association, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the Slovak Gardening Association as OOJDS in Prievidza. In the past and today, all mayors with the municipal council and employees of the Municipal Office have supported and support the JDS civic association and are of great help to it. Their goodwill brings our pensioners a lot of positive energy, joy and knowledge. The events and accompanying actions of our "BIG JDS FAMILY" have been running smoothly year after year, without barriers or delays. There is no time for arguments, we are all pulling at one end of the rope. In this senior community, we experience a lot of joy, respect, and mutual belonging. We sacrifice our free time and love for the well-being of others, and they repeatedly show us their gratitude and satisfaction.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who participate in this noble journey for the benefit of the seniors of our municipality and wish them good health and much success in every way.
